Picasa Photo Editing Software: Initial Setup
After you have downloaded the executable from picasa.google.com, click on the
executable which should be something similar to picasaweb-current-setup.exe.
When the installation process starts, you will be greeted with a screen that
gives the End User License agreement. You can agree by clicking the “I agree”
button or disagree if you like; however, if you disagree, you won’t get far in
the installation though.
Pleasantly, Picasa has a small installation requirement of only 22MB (version
2.7).
You can then choose a install directory and then click “install”
Once the install is complete, a window will pop up with a choice to “complete
scan your computer for pictures” or “Only scan My Documents, My Pictures, and
the Desktop.” Choose which one suits you best. I choose complete scan because I
have files in development directories that are pictures.
Click “continue” after you have made your choice to start the scan process.
After the picture scanning process is complete, a screen will become viewable
that has a left side bar with a categorized list of pictures. The categories
are Albums, Folders and Other Stuff. Each set of categories with have your
pictures organized by year. Under each year, the folder that contain pictures
will be listed and how many pictures in that directory has that year in their
date.
In the right side pane, you will see a thumbnail of each picture in each
year/folder combination for easy identification. The dates on the right side
pane are more specific. They show the month, day and year for each folder’s
creation date.
