Picasa: Understanding The Concept of Collections

Part 1: Picasa Folders

This collection shows the folders on your computer that include pictures or movies, organized by the date that it was created, with the original folder descriptions as they are seen on your computer's hard drive. Changes you make to the folders in this group affect the folders that match on your computer's hard drive. Changing the name of a folder in Picasa will also change the name in Windows Explorer. Here are some simple how-to instructions when using folders:

Adjust which photos and folders appear. Only folders that Picasa is defaulted to scan are shown in this collection. To show which folders on the disk Picasa scans for pictures, click "Folder Manager" on the "Tools" selection. Use the settings on this selection to select or de-select the folders Picasa scans, selecting fom these options: "Scan Once," "Remove From Picasa," and "Scan Always".

Move photos between folders. Select a picture. With your mouse, click, drag, and drop the picture to its new, created folder. To grab more than one picture, press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard as you click pictures. If you relocate a picture into a totally different folder on the disk, Picasa will remind you that you are about to relocate the actual file on your computer's hard drive. Select the "OK" selection to relocate the picture to its new file. NOTE: Relocating pictures between files in the "Folders" collection will affect their physical location on your hard drive.

Edit a folder description. Click on the description of any folder two times to view the Folder Properties box. Enter a title. You can also find the folder's date, place taken, or title. Any title information you include will be searchable in Picasa. Select the "OK" selection. Renaming a file in Picasa will rename the actual folder on your computers hard drive.

Delete a photo from a folder. Select a picture, then go to "File" after that select "Delete From Disk", or just tap the Delete key on your keyboard. Picasa will remind you that you are about to put that picture in your computer's recycle bin. Select the "OK" selection to delete that picture.
